Optional Cutscene #10: Huey’s Walker Gear All you need to do is complete Side Op 51, then visit the Medical Platform and enter the blue door on the third floor. The first one can be unlocked once the first Medical Platform is constructed pretty early on in the game. This cutscene is the start of an optional story arc that’s split into three cutscenes and circa ten gameplay dialogues. Note that this scene won’t play if you rescue him anywhere else. If you manage to rescue him before he’s transported out of the base, you’ll get this little cutscene. Before long, you’ll reach the Soviet Relay Base. But basically, at the start of «Episode 6: Where Do the Bees Sleep?», Kaz mentions a captured Hamid fighter that may know something about the mission’s target: The Honey Bee. This cutscene’s existence is a bit odd, since no other optional prisoner in the game gets their own moment in Kojima’s cinematic spotlight. If you’re a fan of MGS3, this cutscene is sure to please. Once you gain a handful more recruits to your base, this amazing cutscene featuring Ocelot and said recruits will activate the next time you visit Mother Base. Optional Cutscene #7: Ocelot Trains Recruits
And if you have Quiet on your base with maximum bond level, you’ll immediately get an extra cutscene.
If you have D-Dog, Huey and/or Code Talker on your base, they will also make an appearance. When your system’s calendar date matches the date you entered in the game, return to Mother Base, and you’ll get a rare moment of joy from Snake, Kaz, Ocelot and the rest of Diamond Dogs. As you might recall, you enter your birthday at the beginning of The Phantom Pain. This is one of the more pleasant optional cutscenes you’ll find in the game. Once your base GMP is negative («in the red»), return to your base to see a good-ol’-fashioned «dog fight». This cutscene is so good, it gives you an incentive to go over budget with your GMP (’cause apparently staff morale is based on economy, and not food, like it was in Peace Walker). It should be noted that the cutscene has two vastly different endings, one of which activiates if you’ve reached maximum bond with Quiet (provided she’s still on your base). Return to Mother Base when your face becomes Outer Fly Heaven. We all know Ocelot cares about Snake’s hygiene (as evidenced by his comments when you hide in a dumpster), and this is where he reaches his breaking point. If you can manage to avoid (drowning) showers or rain for an extended period of time, you’ll get this little gem of a cutscene. That, or they forgot to Fulton D-Dog. Basically, you activate this cutscene by returning to Mother Base after a long time of inactivity (having unlocked D-Dog as a Buddy will replace this cutscene with another). This cutscene will probably only activate for people who get bored with the game early and then months later get around to playing it some more. It happens if the Skulls discover you during «Episode 1: Phantom Limbs». It can almost hardly be called optional, since one of the side-objectives in the mission entails NOT getting the cutscene. Unlike the previous one, this is a cutscene that pretty much everyone gets (except Stefanie Joosten, for some reason). It kinda harkens back to Meryl’s non-canon death in MGS1. What follows is short cutscene that’s both extremely depressing and somewhat funny.
So I thought it warranted a place on this list. Basically, all you need to do is to wait three in-game days to save Kaz during «Episode 1: Phantom Limbs». There are certain cutscenes that trigger if you fail a mission, but this is the only one with dialogue. Bear in mind that some of these can only be achieved once, and some of them only at very specific points in the story.
But if you want to enrich your MGSV experience just a little more from a cinematic standpoint, here is a detailed walkthrough on how to achieve certain optional cutscenes in the game. And I agree, partly because I love what’s already there. Please also use context cues to help decide if you should tag a detail in your comments.Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is often criticized for its lack of cutscenes compared to previous games.
